Heerspink, Robert
Dr. Rev. Robert Heerspink, age 57, of Grandville. After a brief battle with pancreatic cancer, the Lord called Bob home to eternal glory, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, October 1, 2011. Bob was a faithful husband and father and a dedicated man of God. After being ordained on November 4, 1979, he began his career serving at Eastmanville Christian Reformed Church (4 years) and then went on to serve at Prairie Edge Christian Reformed Church in Portage (6 years), Cottonwood Church in Jenison (10 years), and Faith Community Christian Reformed Church in Wyoming (6 years). He served as the Director for the past 6 years of Back to God Ministries International. As head of one of the Christian Reformed Church agencies, part of his work in Grand Rapids was with the Denominational offices. Bob had a passion for bringing the word of God to the world and his work was driven by a desire to claim the fast-growing world of media for the cause of gospel proclamation and discipleship. He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Heerspink. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 31 years, Edith (Ytje) J. Heerspink-Miedema; children, Eric and Katie Heerspink-Wigger, Joel Heerspink, Amy Heerspink; father, Harvey Heerspink; brother and sister-in-law, David and Lora Heerspink; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 pm at LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed Church (107 LaGrave Avenue SE, Grand Rapids) with Dr. Stan Mast, Rev. Arthur Schoonveld, and Rev. Peter Borgdorff officiating. Interment Grandville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Monday 6-8 pm and Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home, (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Back to God Ministries International, The Christian Reformed Church Foundation, or The Barnabas Foundation.

of Barb's contracting polio. I still remember her radiance and the way her life reflected authentic faith, even from her wheelchair. Our families' paths took different directions then. My parents have both been with the Lord for many years. I didn't recall
that Bob had become a pastor. (My husband was also a pastor in the RCA and died at 54.) My sister and I join the host of brothers and sisters praying for you in this time of lament over the death of the one you loved so deeply. May His strength uphold you,
His peace and comfort surround you,His love and comfort enfold you. In Christ,

together to Grand Rapids. On the way, Bob observed that the Bible gives us three pairs of men whose lives were very close and marked by clusters of miracles revealing God powerfully at work in and through these men. The first pair was Moses and Joshua. The
second pair was Elijah and Elisha. The third pair was John the Baptist and Jesus. Bob went into detail about the miracles and the joy that these men brought into the lives of others. That conversation was a blessing to me then and continues to be so today.
If you would like more about what he shared with me that day, let me know.
