Eardley, Kyran C,

EARDLEY -Kyran C. Eardley 85 of Barlow Lake (formerly of Wyoming, MI), passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 14, 2011 in his home, surrounded by his wife and children.  Kyran is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Matilda (Millie), his children Dennis (Pamela), Michael (Deborah), Kyran (Mary), Colleen (Stephen) Mulder, Kathleen and Margaret (Margie), nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, his sisters Catherine (Kate) Eardley and Eileen Hillebrand and many loving nephews, nieces and friends.   He was preceded in death by his grandson Matthew.  Kyran initially enrolled in the seminary, but withdrew when he decided he wanted to be a husband and father one day.  He transferred to Catholic Central High School and graduated in 1943.  After serving in the Army in Japan, he spent the next 60 years being a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.  He was “dad” to not only his six children but a surrogate “dad” to many nephews, nieces and employees.  He was a partner with his brothers Fred and Tom in Fred’s Trading Post grocery store in Wyoming for 50 years and continued with D&W and Family Fare after the sale of the business.   The things he treasured most in life were family, fishing and his Irish heritage.   We believe he is fishing in Heaven with his grandson Matt.  We say goodbye with a “smile, a kiss and a hug” and hope you know that “when the day is through, we’ll be looking at the stars but we’ll be thinking of you.” The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 11 am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9669 Kraft SE with Fr. Dan DePew celebrant. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Cascade. Members of the family will receive relatives and friends at the Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Chapel (Caledonia), 616 E. Main St. Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm with a prayer vigil at 8:30 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

My deepest condolences to the entire Eardley family. Had the pleasure of working with Kyran back in the 70's at Fred's and I can honestly say I have never met a better man. Always with a kind word or a helping hand..the kind of man we need more of now
days. Kyran will be sorely missed here but I'm sure he's being used by the man upstairs right now. I'm blessed that I had the opportunity to have known this man.

Our deepest condolences to all the Eardleys..Growing up as children our highlight was to go to Fred's Trading Post with our parents..Mr. Eardley was always there to greet us with a smile and as adults he continued to do this through our visits to Family
Fare..He was a wonderful person and his smiling face will be greatly missed..

I remember Kyran from when I was a little kid. We always bought grocerys at the Trading Post. One year Dads factory closed for a time before Christmas & there was no money left for grocery's. Fred ( In those days it was Mr. Eardly to me.) and Kyran let
Dad have grocerys & said pay uus when you can. The week before Christmas we went, as usual to get grocerys, and Kyran gave my Dad a box wrapped in a grocery bag. Written on the box was "Do not open until Christmas" the box got put in the corner where the tree
uaually was, but not this year. Understand please that my Dad was a tough guy, but when the box was opened there was a bottle of wneand a piece of paper. Us kids weren't allowed to see the paper, but I remember that was the only time I ever saw tears in my
Dad's eyes. Us kids never knew why. After Mom passed, & long after Dad had passed I was coing through some papers that had been put in a Cedar Chest & found Dad's missal. Inside of the missal was a piece of paper that I at fiest thought was just a old grocery
reciept. but when I looked more closely, What it was, was a list of all the grocerys Dad had charged. On the Bottom where the total was had a line through it. Underneath that it was written, "Paid in full". Merry Christmas. and was signed Kyran, Fred ,and
Tom. That's the kind of people the Eardley Bro.,s were & all this time us kids never knew what that paper said until I found it, & now you know too. Dad's name was Everett Chapel.

My thoughts and prayers go out to th Eardley family. I got the pleasure knowing him and his family at Freds Trading Post. One of my fond memories is going Ice Fishing with Kyran. I got the chance to catch up again recently at Holy Family Church. He was
a kind man who I will miss talking with.

My condolences to the Eardley family. I literally "grew up" knowing Kyran at the Trading Post (we'd ride our bikes down the hill every week without fail to squander allowances). Later as an adult I enjoyed his friendly greetings as a shopper at the D&W
/Family Fare store. He will be much missed, and while it was such a pleasure conversing with him, I could see last year that he was getting tired. I'm glad he is in good hands now. I will keep you in my prayers.-JanVanderPloeg
