Damstra, Catherine
DAMSTRA: After a long, full life, our dear mother,
grandmother and great grandmother, Catherine Damstra, went to sleep here on
earth and awoke in heaven on Thursday, January 12, 2012. Catherine was born on August 7, 1918. Her family celebrates her passing and in
faith entrusts her to the Lord, who was so dear to her throughout her 93
years. We are confident Catherine was
met in heaven by her loving husband, Marvin J. Damstra, who preceded her to
heaven in 1988, and her infant daughter and her great granddaughter. Also waiting for her were her parents, Titus
and Seana Van Haitsma; sisters, Christina and Cynthia. Left to treasure her wonderful memories are
her devoted daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Jack Weigle, MD, Marcia and
Larry Lubbert. Also missing her greatly
are her grandchildren, Matt and Jill Weigle, Rebecca and Brent Van Blois, Chad
and Chelsie Weigle, Wyland Lubbert, Otis Lubbert, Abigail Lubbert, Amanda (Shawn)
Bartel, Julie (Rich) Steinbrink and Joshua Lubbert. Catherine also leaves 17 great grandchildren
to cherish her memory. Lake Michigan and
its beaches were a huge part of her life.
She enjoyed camping as a young adult with her sisters and friends and
continued camping as a family while raising twins. Later
the Weigle Cottage was perfect for family gatherings, sunsets and relaxing on
the porch in her favorite chair. She was
great fun; she loved playing games with her family. “Pollyanna” was her
favorite and she taught it to each generation.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday 2 pm at Beverly Reformed Church,
2141 Porter SW, Wyoming, with Rev. Eildert Zwart officiating. Interment Grandville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Monday
from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home, (Grandville) 4145
Chicago Dr. Those who wish may make
memorial contributions to Beverly Reformed Church Connection Fund.

Barb and Jack, It was my honor to serve lunch and get to know your mother. She truly is one of the most gentle, patient and kiind resident of Sunset. During baseball season we would always talk about the Tigers and discuss the games. I will miss seeing
her smile. She will be missed. My sympathy to you and your family.
